Cigarette Smoke and Bleach

Share Your Story: Accidental Poisonings

By maintenance_guy

What I Did:

Cigarette smoke and bleach

How I Did It:

I was cleaning the exhaust vent for the smoke room at my work and I got in the janitor closet and grabbed an all purpose cleaner (that had bleach in it)...never even clicked that cigarettes have ammonia in them, after spraying it on I felt really light headed and then smelt it, opened some windows and put an fan in there

Lessons Learned

  • ammonia from cigarette smoke can react with bleach
  • always check the labels of your cleaner
