What School(s) Did You Attend?

Louisiana Tech University

What I Did:

I had a great high school teacher Mrs. White. She was a stern lady and a great teacher. When it came time to pick a major, she really influenced me.

My Education

B.S. Chemistry 99' Louisiana Tech University

Actually, my best education, by far, has been in industry. My college education taught me how to learn, but working in the petrochemical industry taught me how to be a problem solver as well as a highly versed wet chemist as well as a season analytical chemist that develops highly specialized methodologies for use in the petrochemical industry, energy industry and commodities for almost all of the largest oil companies as well as many other basic and industrial chemical companies including but not limited to ExxonMobil, Shell, British Petroleum, Valero to name some of many...I could go on and on.

Lessons Learned

  • Always practice sound industrial hygiene. Make a point to always wear the appropriate gloves be they latex for aqueous solutions or neoprene for organics. Always wear a chemical respirator to protect your lungs from acid gases, organic solvents, aromatics, etc. Keep your lab coat on, even when it's warm. And ALWAYS, ALWAYS protect your eyes with ANZI rated safety glasses. They have saved my eyes no less than three time in the ten years I have been practicing chemistry in the petrochemical industry and once mowing my lawn. Do these things and you will be fine.
  • P.S. Don't blow anything up.
