Converting Microliters to Milliliters

Worked Volume Unit Conversion Example Problem

From

The method to convert microliters (μL) to milliliters (mL) is demonstrated in this worked example problem.

Problem:

Express 6.2 x 104 microliters in milliliters.

Solution

1 μL = 10-6 L
1 mL = 10-3 L

Set up the conversion so the desired unit will be cancelled out. In this case, we want mL to be the remaining unit.

Volume in mL = (Volume in μL) x (10-6 L/1 μL) x (1 mL/10-3 L)
Volume in mL = (6.2 x 104 μL) x (10-6 L/1 μL) x (1 mL/10-3 L)
Volume in mL = (6.2 x 104 μL) x (10-6/10-3 mL/μL)
Volume in mL = (6.2 x 104 μL) x (10-3 mL/μL)
Volume in mL = 6.2 x 101 μL or 62 mL

Answer:

6.2 x 104 μL = 62 mL
