Claim to Fame:
Haworth was a British chemist who was awarded half the 1937 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of the structures of carbohydrates and vitamin C. Haworth and Edmund Hirst were the first to synthesize a vitamin when they synthesized ascorbic acid or vitamin C. He also showed how carbon atoms in sugars are linked into rings by oxygen atoms.
