Professor Dr. Tuan Vo-Dinh:
Tuan Vo-Dinh is famous chemist and inventor who specializes in the field of photonics.
April 11, 1948 in Nha Trang, Vietnam
Claim to Fame:
Dr. Vo-Dinh has invented numerous life-saving devices to detect and diagnose toxins, biological damage, and disease. The devices are non-invasive, relying on laser and fiberoptic scans rather than surgery or biopsy. His earliest patent was for a dosimeter badge that could alert a worker to exposure to a toxic chemical to warn of potential danger. Since then, he has developed similar detection devices to warn of genetic damage, cancer, and diabetes. Another of Dr. Vo-Dinh's inventions is an optical data storage device. The inventions made use of synchronous fluorescence and surface-enhanced Raman laser spectroscopies.
