Loschmidt was an Austrian chemist who made estimations of the size of air molecules. The value he arrived at was twice the actual size. The Loschmidt constant is the number of molecules of an ideal gas in a given volume. He wrote structures for aromatic molecules with a circle representing benzene suggesting he may have identified benzene's ring structure four years before Friedrich Kekulé.
