Claim to Fame:
Michel is a German biochemist who shares the 1988 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Johann Deisenhofer and Robert Huber for the determination of the structure of the proteins essential for photosynthesis. Michel's contribution was isolating the four protein complex that causes photosynthesis in certain bacteria and crystallizing it. Once it was crystallized, it is possible to determine the three dimensional structure with x-ray crystallography.
