Gerald Maurice Edelman is an American physical chemist and Nobel laureate.

July 1, 1929 in New York, New York

Claim to Fame:

Edelman was an American physical chemist who shares the 1972 Nobel Prize in Medicine with Rodney Porter for their independent determination of the chemical structure of antibodies. They both broke the immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody molecule into smaller pieces and determined the structures of the pieces. They then compiled the smaller structures and determined the complete larger structure.
