Franz Karl Achard was a German chemist.

Death:

April 20, 1821 Kunern, Germany

Claim to Fame:

Achard was a German chemist who invented the industrial process to produce table sugar (sucrose) from beets. Table sugar used to be a luxury item only the wealthy could afford. Achard's sugar refineries produced sugar at a much lower price where anyone could afford to have a sugar bowl in their house.
