Elias James Corey is an American chemist and Nobel laureate.

Birth:

July 12, 1928 in Methuen, Massachusetts

Claim to Fame:

Corey is an American chemist who was awarded the 1990 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his advancement of organic synthesis. He developed a method of organic synthesis that broke larger chemical compounds into smaller parts by reversible steps where the synthesis is known. His process is called retrosynthetic analysis and could be used to predict the synthesis steps of other compounds with similar chemistry.
