Fucitol is a sugar (fucose) alcohol that derives its name from a North Atlantic seaweed named Fucus vesiculosus. Fucose kinase is abbreviated as fuc-K. There are proteins from the E. coli K-12 gene named Fuc-U and Fuc-R.
