A roach clip is a holder designed to prevent the last bit of a cigarette or joint (termed a 'roach') from burning a smoker's hands or lips. A roach clip also makes it easier for smokers to pass around a roach. Examples of items used as roach clips include hemostats, alligator clips, clothespins, split match heads, paperclips, and tweezers.

A hemostat is a tool which resembles a pair of needle nose pliers with a locking clamp. Though designed for medicine, it is commonly used as a roach clip.
