Molecules with Strange Names

Really, it's per-iodic acid, H5IO6, not periodic acid. This acid has a nice 'chemistry' name, though, doesn't it? Just remember that it has more in common with peroxide (H2O2) and iodine than it does with the periodic table of the elements.
