Napalm is the name given to any jellied form of gasoline or other flammable petroleum. It is used for circumstances where the liquid is too hard to apply or else won't stay where it is placed. One of the easiest forms of napalm to make is "Napalm B". This is a popular chemistry demonstration because it produces an interesting product and illustrates the synthesis and properties of a gelled sol.
