If you add salt to water, why do you do it? Is it to season your pasta or rice or is it because you think it will change the boiling point of the water? When you salt water, it does raise the boiling point of the water, a phenomenon called boiling point elevation, but the increase in temperature isn't enough to matter. You would need to add 58 grams of salt per liter of water just to raise the boiling point one half of a degree Celsius. That's a lot of salt!Do you add salt to water when you boil it? If so, what is your reason?

I add salt to create nucleation points that will promote boiling.
i love u sooooooo much
I can’t think of any reason to add salt to water other than for flavoring. Some people add salt because they think the water will boil faster. If anything, it will boil slightly later since you raise the boiling point of water slightly. The previous poster said that salt can create nucleation sites. However, if the salt is completely dissolved in the water, the salt will have no effect.
Salt in water just flavors it. It has no other purpose.
I use salt in water for many reasons, If I boil hard boiled egg I use salt because its easier to peel, I use for seasoning and preserve food. I try to use real salt. Its brownish in color. It has other minerals and vitamins in it. Do you think that will have any affect on what I use the salt for?
