Do you need to know about the different branches of chemistry, such as organic, analytical, computational and inorganic? I've been expanding my list and descriptions of the different branches of chemistry. If there are additional branches of chemistry you would like to see included in this index, post a reply to this entry and I'll add them.

Since you have history of chemistry, how about philosophy of chemistry? Also, in the section on biochemistry, something about the distinction between biochemistry, molecular biology and chemical biology might be useful. Perhaps chemical biology even deserves its own page.

Other suggestions: electrochemistry, surface chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, computational chemistry, quantum chemistry. Information on some of these might best be incorporated into existing topics, for example quantum could go under physical chemistry.

(2) Peter Lykos says:

Chemometrics is yet another emergent subdiscipline of chemistry that is quite fundamental as it addresses experimental chemistry from the perspective of data analysis, design of experiments, optimization of chemical processes, real time control, pattern reconition and generally the uptake of computer-based enhancements to the practice of experimental chemistry – what some might call the operational framework of analytical chemistry.

(3) Bert Carpenter says:

If an allotrope is a substance with two or more structures of the same composition, what is the name for something that has two or more different compositions for the same structure. A Heterotrope?
