According to
NPR, banana peels may be an effective media for water purification. Brazilian environmental chemist Gustavo Castro chopped and dried banana peels and used them to filter water from Brazil's copper- and lead-contaminated Paraná River. The peels, which are reusable, removed the metals better than carbon or silica. Castro believes this may be due to the presence of carboxylic acids in the banana peels, which are known to bind metal cations. Details about the research are published in the American Chemical Society's
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research journal.

That’s really amazing ! Nature has build everything for us but we for our comfort and greed pollute the nature. I guess filters based on such peels should be more useful as they are biodegradable and cheaper too. Shall definitely take up this as a lab experiment for my class.
Thanx!
cool!!! waqt a good idea
Anne has made us known about research taken place regarding banana peels acting as water purifier. it is great.
Credit goes to Gustavo to provide a natural filter as banana peels that are environment friendly. Thanks to Anne for providing such a valuable information.
will this really work ……am a bit doubtful……..if it does its a really cool activity
God has provided every thing for us. This is really amazing
