Whisky from the Urine of Diabetics

By , About.com Guide   September 1, 2010

Follow me on:

I learned of whisky made from the urine of diabetics while reading Slashdot today. Sugar is recovered from the urine of a diabetic person and is added to the whisky mash stock to aid in its fermentation. Sounds yummy, right? Um... no, but maybe that's just because whisky is not my drink of choice. According to Wired (if you check the URL of their article, you'll notice the filename for their link is "pissky"), the Gilpin Family Whisky project isn't looking to mass-market its product. Instead, whisky from your pee would be more of a conversation piece... something you could savor on special occasions.

My question for you is this: If you were/are diabetic, would you want some of this whisky made from your urine? Would you drink it?
