1899 - Max Theiler was born. Theiler was awarded the 1951 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his work on yellow fever.

1928 - Johannes Fibiger died. Fibiger received the 1926 Nobel Prize in Medicine for determining the parasite Spiroptera carcinoma caused cancer in lab rats. It was later determined that the parasite didn't cause the tumors, tissue damage was found to be the cause.

1948 - Orville Wright died. Orville and his brother, Wilbur, invented the first powered aircraft.

1958 - Ernst Heinrich Heinkel died. Heinkel was a German aeronautical engineer who built the first jet aircraft and rocket powered aircraft.

1991 - John Bardeen died. Bardeen was a physicist who shared the 1956 Nobel Prize in Physics with William Shockley and Walter Brattain for the invention of the transistor. He was also awarded the 1972 Nobel Prize in Physics with Leon Cooper and John Schrieffer for the theory of superconductors.
