Pop Rocks Bubble Gum

Pop Rocks Bubble Gum (Anne Helmenstine)

Do you recall my little test regarding what happens when you wash down Pop Rocks™ with a nice fizzy cola? Here's a new product (new to me anyway) you can play with. I would have expected Pop Rocks Bubble Gum would be sickly sweet and disgusting, but it's pleasingly tart and becomes a good gum after the popping is done. I might even go so far as to say it's better than regular Pop Rocks. I would presume the gum works the same way as the candy, with pressurized carbon dioxide introduced into the gum during the manufacturing process. Even though the gum is softer than the candy, it apparently retains the gas well enough to pop in your mouth. Chemistry in action... pretty cool.
