Make Your Own Storm Glass

Monday September 1, 2008
One interesting thing about hurricanes is that though they are massive storms, it can be hard to tell when one is headed your way. The National Hurricane Center is a trustworthy source of up-to-date information, but you can use chemistry to make a storm glass to try to predict bad weather. A storm glass isn't particularly reliable, yet it's still a fun application of chemistry and a good way to learn about solubility, precipitation, and phases of matter.
