Yeast & Hydrogen Peroxide Volcano

Sunday October 14, 2007
The usual science project volcano is made using vinegar and baking soda, but there are other ways to make a chemical 'volcano' for fun or to illustrate an eruption. The vinegar and baking soda volcano is nice because you can get a giant jug-o-vinegar and huge box of baking soda and play with the volcano for hours. However, you might not have one or both ingredients, so another way to make a volcano is to pour hydrogen peroxide into a small bottle and add a packet of quick-rise yeast. For a more violent eruption, like a fountain, you can add a roll of Mentos™ candies to a bottle of diet cola. All of the volcanoes are fun, easy to make, and safe.
