Oxygen Facts

Sunday May 13, 2007
Can you name some facts about oxygen? The name for the element oxygen comes from Greek words that mean 'acid former'. Air is about 21% oxygen. Oxygen gas is colorless and tasteless, but the element is blue in both its liquid and solid forms. Approximately two thirds of the human body and nine tenths of the mass of water is oxygen. Pure oxygen commonly exists as the divalent molecule O2. Ozone, O3, is pure oxygen, but it's highly reactive, so oxygen tends not to remain as ozone for long.
