In addition to the
Green Sand Beach, there are other colored beaches on the island of Hawaii. There is lots of chemistry associated with the island's volcanoes, too. I've started a photo gallery to show some of the interesting features. Since I'm still in Hawaii, look for more pictures and descriptions to be added over the next several days. One cool phenomenon I haven't been able to photograph is the
green flash, where the top edge of the sun turns to green as it rises or sets below a flat horizon (like Kona's sea).
