Thinkpad Battery Recall

Friday March 2, 2007
Lenovo has announced a notebook battery recall for over 200,000 ThinkPad laptop batteries that were manufactured by Sanyo. The batteries overheat and may pose a hazard to users if the hot battery is jarred by a strong impact.

You may recall Dell issued a voluntary battery recall last year because some products were smoking and bursting into flame. Lithium ion batteries tend to become very hot and require an effective heat sink to avoid accidents. Similar batteries are used in other laptops, digital cameras, cell phone rechargers, and handheld video games.
