- Marie Curie - Didn't start her studies at the Sorbonne until she was 24. She suffered from stage fright, though she gave many lectures. Marie overcame multiple prejudices, based on her sex, heritage, and even because she was studying science.
- J.J. Thomson - J.J. stands for Joseph John. He was reputedly clumsy with his hands, though he could design and troubleshoot equipment brilliantly.
- Ernest Rutherford - In addition to his own research, Rutherford was noted for his skill collaborating with others, including Niels Bohr, Hans Geiger, and H. G. J. Moseley. During World War I, his work was concerned with submarine detection.
