Compounds Made of Two Elements

Sunday April 9, 2006
One of my e-mails this week was seeking compounds composed of exactly two elements. If we define a compound as a chemical substance made up of two or more elements, then it's pretty easy to start a list. Examples would include (in no order whatsoever):
  • H2O - water
  • NaCl - sodium chloride or table salt
  • KCl - potassium chloride
  • HCl - hydrochloric acid
  • N2O - nitrous oxide
  • AgI - silver iodide
  • AlN - aluminum nitride
  • B4C - boron carbide
  • CdTe - cadmium telluride
  • CsF - cesium fluoride
