Be Safe in the Chemistry Lab

In addition to the fun activities associated with the holidays, there also seems to be a tendency to become complacent in the lab. The news alerts are brimming with reports of lab explosions or chemical spills. Most of these accidents can be avoided with just a little care and attention to detail. No matter how distracted you may be by final exams or an end-of-year deadline, take a moment to think before you act in the lab, be considerate of those who share your lab space, and don't forget to label your projects. Here's an overview of basic lab safety as well as a tongue-in-cheek safety quiz for you. Lab safety is pretty much common sense, but 'tis the season to get careless.
