Chemistry Lab Safety Quiz

Sunday September 25, 2005
I imagine every chemistry instructor has horror stories about narrowly-avoided accidents and safety violations in the lab. Personally, I've seen a person push a glass tube through the palm of his hand, trying to force it into a hole in a stopper, witnessed someone trying to smash the cap off of a bottle (flammable and potentially explosive... strangely, this person did have the foresight to open the container inside a fume hood), and knew someone who honestly didn't know you should turn off the gas to a bunsen burner. Here's a safety quiz for you that covers these and other unsafe practices. It's sarcastic and maybe even a little mean, but... some accidents just shouldn't happen. If you're in a chemistry lab, take it seriously and work safely. Take the quiz...
