High School Forensics Class Makes Chemistry Fun
Friday April 30, 2004
Traditional chemistry lectures and labs tend to be really, well, boring. How do you generate an interest in chemistry and teach the concepts without putting students to sleep? Easy! Teach the science via its practical applications. Think 'F' words, like fire, forensics, and food. Horizon Honors High School in Ahwatukee Foothills, Arizona, is taking action. The school offers an interdisciplinary honors forensics course, which ties together principles of chemistry, physics, biology, math... you name it. Topics include analysis of hair and fibers, fingerprints, soil composition, and blood typing. Right now, such courses are only offered at a few high schools. To learn more about how one school is making chemistry interesting, read the article at The Arizona Republic.
