Chemistry of Diamond

Thursday February 12, 2004
Here's a great Valentine's Day article! The cover story at Chemical & Engineering News tells about the up-and-coming uses for man-made diamonds. Did you know that lab-created diamonds can be created suitable for use as gemstones now? The created diamonds are available in different colors. Did you know that similar technology can be used to color natural diamonds? For example, infusing a stone with nitrogen produces a yellow stone, while boron yields a blue stone. Today's lab-created diamonds may even be doped to make semiconductors. Check out the C&EN article for much more information.
