DEAD Chemistry

Happy Halloween! Do you want to look death in the face today? Probably not, but you can take a look at DEAD without suffering any loss of life. DEAD is the acronym for diethyl azodicarboxylate, the latest addition to the Chemical Structure library, in honor of Halloween. DEAD is an explosive, toxic, photosensitive orange liquid used as a reagent in the Mitsunobu reaction to perform a stereospecific conversion of an alcohol to a primary amine. Boo!
