Saliva Testing for Chemical Exposure

Saturday October 25, 2003
Researchers at the U.S. Dept. of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have been able to use mass spectrometry to identify pesticide metabolites in the saliva of rats exposed to known amounts of the pesticide. The research provides the basis for developing a portable microsensor for rapid diagnosis of pesticide or chemical weapon exposure in humans. Saliva testing is quick, non-invasive, highly sensitive, and requires minimal training to perform. Read the article at Science Daily News to learn more.
