Magnetic Manganese

Iron isn't the only element that exhibits ferromagnetism. The origin for the word 'manganese' is from the Latin magnes, meaning magnet. This refers to the magnetism of pyrolusite, MnO₂. Manganese isn't always magnetic, but neither is iron.
